Camtu's Alaska Wild Seafoods is a local and family-owned processing plant for
fresh and wild Copper River and Prince William Sound salmon, all domestically
processed. The owners, Thai Vu and Camtu Ho, began their journey as
seafood workers and fishermen, but today, they have grown into a
wholesale seafood operation that continues to grow and expand.
Thai Vu and Camtu Ho arrived in Cordova, Alaska 24 years ago in search of a new life. With barely any English, they worked as production workers, along with other jobs on the side. They were also raising a family of three children along the way. They begin thinking about new ideas to grow their dreams and for new ways to serve the community of Cordova. This led to the opening of a small clothing and alterations store for Camtu, and Thai had his own commercial gill-net boat.
Eventually, they expanded to a larger facility and developed new businesses known as Camtu Center and Cordova Transport. Camtu Center is a retail store that sells clothing, gifts, fresh produce, Asian foods, housewares, bulk items, and more. Then Cordova Transport is a transportation company that works with Ace Air Cargo, FedEx, and Ravn to ensure freight and packages get to Cordova safely.
After a few years of operating the new retail store and transport company, they extended the existing Camtu Center building with an additional building. With background knowledge from working in the cannery and operating a gill-netter, Thai and Camtu took their passion for the seafood industry and started Alaska Wild Seafoods, LLC. Since 2008, Alaska Wild Seafoods has been enriching and supporting the town's fishing culture and producing the highest quality of salmon that we Alaskans are proud of.
